“Backyard Seeds is an heirloom vegetable and herb seed specialist. We began as a small backyard seed farm in the Yarra Valley, Victoria and as demand grew, we engaged other small-scale seed farmers and backyard growers from across the Yarra Valley. We now have a collection of seed growers dedicated to the production of heirloom seeds and who support organic farming practices.
All Backyard Seeds are untreated, open pollinated, non-hybrid and non- GMO.
The Backyard Seeds philosophy is to provide affordable seeds, that allow for greater diversity for the backyard grower. We specialise in variety packs of fresh seeds in quantities appropriate for the backyard garden. Our aim is for all backyard gardens to be productive and diverse, rather than a monoculture that is susceptible to pests. We want your garden to flourish with diversity, just as nature intended.
All Backyard Seeds are traditional heirloom seeds that have been cultivated over generations for their flavour, disease resistance and prolific nature. Unlike hybrid and GMO varieties, heirloom seeds are perfect for your own seed saving. We want everyone to have the ability to save their own seeds, which is not only important to keep a diverse variety of food and herbs alive, but also increases food security.
All Backyard Seeds products have 100% recycled paper seed envelopes, and all seed varieties are individually packaged inside and clearly labelled.
Whether in a backyard, a rooftop, a courtyard, or a windowsill, we want to help people start planting today!”
